Steven T. Georgiou (M.A. '98, Ph.D. '04) delivered the core lectures at St. Bonaventure University's inaugural Robert Lax Week, held March 4-8. Georgiou served as the "Lax Lecture Scholar" for the event due to his expertise on the hermit-sage of Patmos.

Georgiou's expertise on Lax goes beyond research. A chance meeting in 1993 led to a seven year teacher-student relationship, commemorated in the spiritual trilogy: The Way of the Dreamcacher, Mystic Street, and The Isle of Monte Cristo. The last of this series earned a National Catholic Press Association Award in 2011. Through CARE, Georgiou is currently teaching a class on Robert Lax, the first ever offered at the GTU on the spiritual figure.

Lax is well known for his poetry and for being a close friend of Thomas Merton. Before relocating to the remote Greek island, Lax spent a significant part of his life in Olean, NY, the city next door to St. Bonaventure. SBU houses archives of both Lax and Merton. The Lax Lectures will be held every two years.
